Portuguese characters, recognized properly
Tildes (ã, õ), the cedilla (ç) and accented vowels (á, â, é, ê, í, ó, ô, ú) are recognized as real characters, so words like ação and informações keep their spelling when copied.
Handwritten Portuguese is recognized too, alongside printed text on the same page. Neat block letters come out best; hurried cursive is less reliable.
No language setting needed
You don't pick a language. The OCR detects it on each page, so a folder of Portuguese files and English files can go in the same batch.
Documents that mix Portuguese with English or Spanish are read in one pass without choosing a language.
Searching Portuguese text in the result
Some PDF viewers ignore accents when searching and some don't. If a search for "acao" finds nothing, search for "ação", the way it is printed.
Portuguese documents people convert
- Invoices and receipts (faturas, notas fiscais)
- Contracts and leases (contratos)
- Certificates and registry records (certidões)
- Bank and tax statements
- Handwritten forms and notes
Older and harder documents
Typewritten and older printed pages generally work well. Faded originals and low-resolution scans cause most errors, so 300 dpi is a good minimum.
If a file already has a text layer, it is returned unchanged. Tick Force OCR to replace a poor existing text layer; see how Force OCR works.
