Korean OCR

Make scanned Korean PDFs searchable

GetSearchablePDF makes scanned Korean documents searchable. Printed Korean and handwriting are recognized, and the text layer lets you search, select and copy without changing how the page looks.

Korean characters, recognized properly

Hangul is recognized as full syllable blocks, along with the numbers, Latin letters and occasional Hanja found in business and legal documents.

Handwritten Korean is recognized too, alongside printed text on the same page. Neat block letters come out best; hurried cursive is less reliable.

No language setting needed

You don't pick a language. The OCR detects it on each page, so a folder of Korean files and English files can go in the same batch.

Korean documents often include English names and terms. The OCR reads both on the same page without choosing a language.

Searching Korean text in the result

Korean uses spaces between words, but PDF search also matches parts of words, so searching for 계약 finds 계약서 as well.

Korean documents people convert

  • Contracts (계약서)
  • Tax invoices (세금계산서) and receipts (영수증)
  • Certificates and registry documents
  • Bank and insurance documents
  • Forms filled in by hand

Older and harder documents

Modern print works well. Older documents with a lot of Hanja, faint photocopies and low-resolution scans cause most errors, so test a few pages first.

If a file already has a text layer, it is returned unchanged. Tick Force OCR to replace a poor existing text layer; see how Force OCR works.
