Chinese characters, recognized properly
Both Simplified and Traditional characters are recognized, along with full-width punctuation and the numbers, Latin letters and units that appear in most business documents.
Handwritten Simplified Chinese is recognized too, alongside printed text on the same page. Handwritten Traditional Chinese is not supported yet; printed Traditional Chinese is.
No language setting needed
You don't pick a language. The OCR detects it on each page, so a folder of Chinese files and English files can go in the same batch.
Chinese documents often mix in English product names, model numbers and addresses. The OCR reads both on the same page without choosing a language.
Searching Chinese text in the result
Chinese has no spaces between words, and PDF search matches any run of characters, so searching for 合同 finds it wherever it appears on the page. Search for a short, distinctive phrase rather than a whole sentence.

Older and harder documents
Modern printed pages work well. Very small type, dense tables and low-resolution scans cause most errors, and text printed vertically can be harder, so test a few pages first.

- Will the document look different?
- No. The page image stays the same. OCR adds an invisible text layer on top of it.
