(You only have to do the following steps once)
Raven Cloud will stop working on 31 December 2023. You can continue using your scanner with GetSearchablePDF!
Just set the connection to Dropbox or OneDrive instead of Raven Cloud and all your scans will be processed with OCR.
Steps:
1. Sign up for GetSearchablePDF
2. Connect your Dropbox or OneDrive account in GetSearchablePDF
3. After connecting the account a folder "GetSearchablePDF" will be created under Dropbox\Apps (or OneDrive\Apps).
4. If you have already connected your Dropbox or OneDrive account in Raven Cloud skip this step. If not:
a. Log in to your Raven Cloud account.
b. Access MY ACCOUNT by clicking on your profile image/name.
c. Click the CONNECTIONS tab from the navigation menu.
d. Locate Dropbox or OneDrive and press SET UP.
e. Choose Full Access as preferred access level. This is just to ensure that Raven Cloud can write to the GetSearchablePDF folder. GetSearchablePDF itself can only access files within the GetSearchablePDF folder.
f. Log in using your Dropbox email and password.
g. You will now be directed to CLICK HERE to choose a destination folder.
h. Choose Apps -> GetSearchablePDF -> Input and press SELECT.
i. To complete set up, click CONTINUE to confirm the folder of your choice.
5. Make sure the destination in your Raven scanner is set to Dropbox or OneDrive and the destination folder is Apps -> GetSearchablePDF -> Input.
6. You are now ready to scan! Every page you scan will be now sent to the Apps/GetSearchablePDF/Input folder, will get processed with OCR and you will get a searchable PDF in Apps/GetSearchablePDF/Output.
7. You get a free trial of 10 pages. You can purchase a subscription for more pages here.
In case Raven Cloud goes down and does not let you set up the connection to Dropbox/OneDrive, don't worry, your Raven scanner is not a brick!
You can use the TWAIN drivers and a third party app to scan. We recommend NAPS2, which is free and opensource. This is also what Raven recommended in their support site.
You can set NAPS2 to save the scanned files to the GetSearchablePDF Input folder so that they will get automatically processed with OCR.
Steps:
A. Download the TWAIN drivers for your scanner. Unfortunately Raven's support site is not accessible anymore but you can use archive.org to retrieve the TWAIN drivers.
For convenience we have assembled the drivers for all the models here
B. Install the TWAIN drivers (make sure you select the TWAIN driver during the installation).
C. Download and install NAPS2.
D. Click on Profiles -> New:
- Select TWAIN Driver, click on "Choose device", click the Raven Scanner listed and press "Select".
- Set Paper Source to "Duplex".
- Set the resolution to 200 dpi (this is what Raven recommends for most scans).
Select OK.
E. Click on "Enable Auto Save" checkbox. Click on "..." button to set the path to "Dropbox\Apps\GetSearchablePDF\Input" (for Dropbox) or "OneDrive\Apps\GetSearchablePDF\Input" (for OneDrive).
F. You are ready to press Scan. Each scanned page will be saved to the Input folder, will get processed with OCR and appear in the Output folder.
Users have reported that Raven Cloud OCR stopped working around the end of September 2023. If you want to convert your existing scans to searchable PDFs, you can download your files from Raven Cloud and then copy-paste them in the GetSearchablePDF Input folder.
GetSearchablePDF will work with any scanner that can scan directly to Dropbox or OneDrive.
